December 28, 2022 | Update from MAPPC President Adam Barton
It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of our good friend, Elmer Criswell, on December 27, 2022. Elmer passed surrounded by his loving wife, Shawna, daughter, Jennie and sons Zach and Josh. Many of you knew Elmer from polygraph school or seminars, and I believe no one would ever deny that he was a great, great man. Elmer always had a smile and a jole to make folks feel happy and welcome. He was a strong advocate of our polygraph scinece, and to be quite honest, he probably forgot more about polygraph than most of us will ever know. The concept of the MAPPC came from Elmer. He always wanted to start an association that was dedicated to training police examiners and to make the world a safer place. A few years back, his concept became a reality thanks to the dedication of Vance Row, Erik Abel, Gene Cooper, Dave Weisrt, George Brace and many others. Elmer was very proud of what the MAPPC became, and he was looking forward to speakng at our 2023 seminar. Our brother will be sorely missed, but we can all take comfort knowing he is up above watching over us. Please keep his family in your prayers and stay dedicated to our profession. We all know Elmer would want that.

March 25, 2020 | COVID-19 Guidance:
The Maryland Polygraph Association (MPA) recommends following Governor Larry Hogan’s comprehensive and collaborative approach to keep Marylanders safe. On 05 March 2020, Governor Hogan issued a proclamation declaring a state of emergency. The Governor further enacted an emergency order to close all non-essential businesses and urges Marylanders to stay home and adhere to the social distancing guidance. For health resources regarding COVID-19, the MPA recommends visiting coronavirus.maryland.gov.
For those agencies businesses, organizations, and facilities that may remain open, as noted in Interpretive Guidance (Click Here ), and determine polygraph examinations are essential, it is highly recommended asking every examinee if they have traveled to an area deemed to be a COVID-19 hot spot. Also, as is normal polygraph practice, determining the individual’s health. If the individual has traveled to an area deemed to be a COVID-19 hot spot or is not healthy, the individual agency should have the ability to delay the polygraph examination. Additionally, the MPA supports Governor Hogan’s guidelines and those from the Center for Disease Control for controlling the spread of COVID-19.
